What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil has many benefits and uses, but many people are unfamiliar with exactly what MCT oil is. Never fear, Arena Supplements is here to give you the lowdown!
What is MCT Oil?
MCTs, are Medium Chain Triglycerides also called “MCFAs” for medium-chain fatty acids, and in layman terms these are really "healthy fats". Typically #MCT oil is a concentrated form of these healthy fats which can come from Coconuts and various other sources.
What are the uses for MCT Oil?
Unlike coconut oil, MCT oil is liquid at room temperature and is tasteless. It is better for rapid energy and metabolism than coconut oil and it may also be a great choice for those who don’t like the taste of coconut oil or who need a liquid oil at room temperature. It is a great neutral oil for use in homemade mayonnaise or as an unflavored oil in homemade salad dressings. I have also heard people use it as coffee creamer!
It has documented benefits for the skin when used topically and for metabolism when used internally. It can also be used to make personal care products like homemade whitening toothpaste or in lotions, salves and hair care.
Low carb dieting. People on low carb diets are recommended to use MCT oil as it can curb hunger and cravings. A typical MCT ketogenic dietplan will recommend that between 30% and 60% of the fat intake in the diet comes from MCT fats. Excellent sources of MCT include MCT oil, coconut oil and coconut products, such as coconut milk and cream.
MCT Oil Benefits
MCTs raise up ketones and lower blood sugar naturally. They have a strong blood sugar stabilizing effect that helps to reduce inflammation and improve brain function.
MCTs significantly improve carbohydrate tolerance and inhibit the production of fatty acids in adipose (fat) tissue.
The use of MCTs, which as described are highly ketogenic, makes it much easier to get into and stay in ketosis. An MCT based diet only depends upon 60-70% of calories from fat which allows one to handle some nutrient dense sources of carbohydrate and protein. The diversity of the diet provides more micronutrients, has greater variety and is more enjoyable.
Many athletes find great performance benefits using MCTs both pre and post workout. They are the best form of fat to use right before (within 2 hours) and right after exercise due to their quick mobilization and use for rebuilding muscles and preventing the catabolic breakdown of proteins after rigorous training.
Research has shown that MCTs suppress the appetite which helps individuals who struggle with strong cravings and overeating.
